Save a few bucks changing the oil in your riding mower. Just wan't to share this little savings with you all. Came across it this last weekend, I had to change my oil in my John Deere riding mower. I bought the filter at Home Depot for $12.96 plus tax. And the oil was almost $7.00 dollars a quart so I passed on that and went to Auto Zone for oil as they had it on sale for $14.99 for a five quart jug. Plus I found out they also have riding mower oil filters and with the sale going on the filter was free. So have your oil filter number with you and go save some money and get your free filter. The two quarts of oil and filter would have cost me $27.00 at Home Depot and I paid $15.00 at Auto Zone and ended up with three extra quarts to use in my auto. Remember Auto Zone does carry riding mower oil filters.

Getting Harder to Save

Is it getting harder to save a dollar. Stupid question huh. Thanks to a everchanging world we all must addapt or get left behind. It seems all the deals you used to get have gone bye bye or have change on how you can save.

A very good idea to this day in saving your own money is to buy most of your grocery goods on a single trip, thus saving you gas and plus possible distraction from purchasing uneeded items.

I have notice that when you go to the store for three items then you come home with six to ten. Try it and you'll be suprised. And when you go to the store for fifty you usually end up with only five to ten extra items .

Try a garden this year. No matter how small your helping yourself save money by growing your tomato's $3.00 pound or Bell Peppers $4.00 pound. Three to six plants can generate a lot of saving . Last year we had twelve pepper plants that produced over a 100 peppers.

If you plan your grocery trip carefully you will be able to save money because your only making one stop instead of three or maybe more throughout the week. And don't forget the coupons that you had cut out of the paper and had gotten online. Make sure you only take coupons for the items that your going to buy only. Or else you may end up with things you may not have need of. Also remembering that grocery stores don't really have big sales on produce. I you have a farmers market you can get some really fresh fruits and vegetables and at a reasonable price. So you could hit both places on one day and you would be set. It may take a few days to get in the hang of it and that is o.k. You should also take advantage of some of the generic items that are comparable to the ones you already buy, and you will be surprised at the quality of a lot of these items. And in this alone you will save a few dollars. I bought the generic brand of soda this week at 59 cents for a two liter bottle compared to 1.33 for a name brand , so I saved 1.48 on two bottles. Give it a try and see how much you can save.

Saving gas can be done by watching the way you accelerate after slowing down and or stopping. Also remember to check your tires as under inflated tires can cause a lose of 5% or more of your miles per gallon. And if your vehicle is a little sluggish while you are driving then get your vehicle a tune up as this will also cause poor mileage. Just because your car got 30 miles per gallon when you bought it doesn't mean it's getting it now. Remember a happy car with serve you better and longer.

Saving Money on Motel Stays

Here is a simple tip I learned while traveling from Ohio to Idaho and many states west and south of there. Only plan on staying in motels from Monday through Thursday because they raise the rates the rest of the week due to more people traveling at this time.

And the best deals are on the business loops going through small cities and towns at the older mom and pop motels. I got a room with two double beds and kids up to twelve stay free for $27.00 in Sturgis Wy. And a super double in Southern Utah for less than $13.00. And Miles City, Montana we got a real nice room with double beds free for the kids and a swimming pool for $37.00. And all these deals were during the weekdays.

Also these places have been here for a long time and are owned by people that live there. And that means they know the surroundings,places of interest, best dinning,and maybe even a shortcut and more scenic route for your ongoing trip.

So don't get caught off guard like we did and have to check into a Holiday Inn at 12:30 A.M. at the rate of $110.00 so two of us could sleep for seven hours and enjoy a complimentary four ounce orange juice on our way out.

I was out yesterday and came across more coupons to share with you. Walgreens has the regular flyer that comes out each Sunday with a few coupons in it . And what I didn't know was they also have a mini booklet of coupons ,and rebates etc.that they put out each month. And you can only get it by asking for it in store. This months was loaded with good deals. I saved $1.50 on a large bottle of Tresseme shampoo. $4.49-$1.50=$2.99

Coupons do work. Here is an example.
Hamburger Helper store coupon says,"buy on get one free" and the store price is $1.49 on sale.
And you have a manufacturers coupon for 50 cents off two.
Store doubles coupons up to $1.00.

AND THAT EQUALS = $1.49 -$1.00 = .49 cents for two boxes of Hamburger Helper. And that makes a great meal. So planning ahead even a little bit can save you a lot of money.

Dishwasher Mayhem

A close friend of mine was having dishwasher troubles. The problem was the little door for the soap wouldn't stay shut. So she asked the associate at the appliance store if it could be fixed and he told her it was probably broke and she would be better off with a new one. Being at the mercy of the salesman she bought a new one and had it installed. I heard of her situation after she had already bought the appliance and it was on the way. She said if I wanted the old one it was mine. I picked it up the following day and took it home and it was a nice model with interchangeable panels. After unloading it at home I took the front door apart (8 small screws)and the latch arm clip for the soap dispenser had popped out of the slot and all it needed was a small clip to hold it in place. This appliance took me twenty minutes to repair and cost me 10 cents. And it cost her $450.00 for her new one.

Look online for the manufacturer and most have a schematic of their appliances and you can even view a lot of them online. So you can look at it and order the part you need and print the layout page and repair it yourself. And sometimes the library has books such as Readers Digest Repair Manual and it is loaded with easy to do repairs for all items used in the home.

How about this cool deal? I go to buy a $20.00 Black Forest Ham and I have a coupon for $5.00 off and plus if I buy it I get a free frozen turkey up to 15 lbs. This deal is right up my alley. I go there and they are out of the hams so I get a rain check. I then go back three days later and find one with a in store 1/2 off coupon on it. So now I get an excellent ham plus a free turkey for $10.00 minus my $5.00 coupon = $5.00. And that is equal to $2.50 apiece. And let me tell you I was dancing on a cloud because I just saved $15.00 on a ham and $12.00 on a turkey = $27.00 savings. All you have to do is line up the stores and coupons online and off and jump at the deals when you find them.

I bought $316.00 worth of groceries a while back for 68.00 due to coupons thus saving $248.00. It pays to be a little thrifty indeed.

And from this moment on it's a struggle to stay focused on your true mission due to the fact that you usually have dinner by five o'clock and you are hungry . You manage to get to the check out in short order and it is then you may notice all the extra items in your cart and you don't even try to talk yourself out of these due to the fact that your hungry . So the deli meats , candy bar ,bag of chips and the fresh blueberry muffins were o.k. to buy even though you didn't even need them . And most of all the market loves you for the extra twenty bucks you forked over for the stuff.

Saving is usually on peoples mind some of the time , and not most of the time. Here is a simple lesson that I learned and it has saved me at least $5.00 to $10.00 on each trip. My wife asks me to stop by the store on my way home and grab a gallon of milk for mashed potatoes and pudding. So after work I rush to the store and all the way in the back at the end of isle thirty something. And there it is the delicious milk at $4.35 a gallon. Seeing this my eyes damn near pop out of their sockets. I just want the milk not 2% of the cow. Then I talk myself into buying it as I am there already. And then as I walk back to the front and pick up some peperoni rolls and those cookies priced $2.00 for $4.00. I proceed to the checkout and pay damn near $10.00 and I got two things I didn't need plus a gallon of overpriced milk.

THE FIX

Remember all the times you drive past the gas and go stations and the sign with Milk 2 for $5. If you go in there and get the milk you are saving $1.85 a gallon. And the best part is your not walking two city blocks to pay the extra price. And 90% of the time your not enticed to purchase other items because your more focused on your mission. In AND OUT.

Saving Money at the Grocery Store

So many of us are on the run . Oh thats right I gotta go get the milk at the store after work . So after work there you go into the store and that delicious milk for sweet Karen's delicious pudding and the mashed potatoes is way in the back and at the end of aisle twenty nine. And then your eyes roll back into their sockets when you see the $4.35 price for two percent . We all know what happens next . You talk to yourself and say "as long as I am here I might as well get it ".

Now look what you just did ! You just decided that the price for that milk was o.k. And you just fell for it . And also while you where there look at the extras you just bought and you didn't even need them . So how much extra did you really spend ?

On all the trips home how many times have you gone by the gas station and seen two gallons for $5.00 ? And the best part is you can be in and out in less than five minutes and you are not distracted by all the things that big grocery is enticing you with .
